A Flying Fisherman

by

Vipawee Chunekitiyanone

A Flying Fisherman, is a project that imagines a culture of birdfolk who live along steep coastal cliffs, spending hours perched in silence, waiting for the right moment to strike.

The idea draws from the way certain birds dive or glide toward water to catch fish. In this world, fishers launch themselves into the air when fish leap from the ocean below, using a leg-locked parachute and a bow to strike midair.

Originally from Thailand, Vipawee is a recent 2025 graduate from New3dge and is currently carving a path into the industry. She loves building worlds through playful character design - starting small with a single character sheet and letting ideas grow in unexpected ways. Sketching, writing, and finding inspiration in the most random corners of the internet are all part of her creative process.

Though it might not be obvious at first, the piece that sparked it all was Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride, a birthday gift from her mom that left a lasting impression and set the course for her artistic journey.
